Neckarsulm, May 29, 2026 – Schwarz Digits, the IT and digital division of Schwarz Group, has achieved a groundbreaking success for the digital transformation of administration and healthcare in Germany. As part of an EU-wide tender by GovTech Deutschland, the in-house cloud provider STACKIT was selected as part of the multi-cloud portfolio of the contracted Bechtle AG. The framework agreement, with a total volume of up to 250 million euros, ensures standardized and sovereign access to highly scalable infrastructure and AI services for government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels.

Digital sovereignty as the foundation for government and healthcare

By awarding the framework contract to Germany’s largest IT systems provider, Bechtle AG, GovTech Deutschland is laying the technical foundation for an interoperable multi-cloud environment. STACKIT provides a native European cloud infrastructure (IaaS and PaaS) on which specialized administrative processes and modern AI applications can be operated in the future. Technological independence from non-European providers will sustainably strengthen the state’s digital sovereignty.

Strong Alliance for the Public Sector

As a leading IT partner for the future, Bechtle AG is taking on the overall management and coordination of the framework agreement. The IT service provider acts as a central multi-cloud broker and ensures that government agencies and public institutions can access cloud and AI services seamlessly, securely, and in line with their needs. The partnership combines Bechtle AG’s sales and implementation expertise with the technological independence and security of STACKIT’s European cloud.

“With this framework agreement, we are establishing a forward-looking ecosystem. It combines innovation and security and enables government agencies to flexibly access high-performance cloud services as core building blocks of sovereign overall architectures,” says Steven Handgrätinger, Executive Vice President of the Public Sector Division at Bechtle AG.

“Winning this contract proves that sovereign European infrastructures fully meet the strict regulatory requirements of the government and the healthcare sector and offer a genuine, independent alternative,” says Bernie Wagner, CSO of Schwarz Digits

Highest security standards and open cloud architecture

As a cloud provider from Schwarz Digits, STACKIT meets the strictest regulatory requirements. The infrastructure is certified to ISO 27001 based on IT-Grundschutz by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and holds comprehensive C5 certifications. In addition, STACKIT enables state-of-the-art security procedures such as confidential computing to ensure the seamless and uninterrupted protection of highly sensitive patient data and government metadata within the European Economic Area (EEA). The framework agreement establishes STACKIT as a sovereign infrastructure for the public sector.
