Schwarz Digits and Siemens are cooperating for sovereign private 5G networks
- Superior wireless connectivity for defense and security.
- Maximum security through physical separation (air gapping).
- Seamless integration into the STACKIT cloud ecosystem.
Heilbronn / Hanover, April 23, 2026 - Schwarz Digits, the IT and digital division of the Schwarz Group, and Siemens announce a strategic partnership to implement local private 5G networks for critical infrastructures and consumers in the field of internal and external security. The cooperation addresses the growing need for high-performance mobile communication, technological sovereignty and resilience for European authorities with security tasks and in national and alliance defense. The combination of the competence of Siemens in the area of communication with the superior cloud offerings from STACKIT and software solutions from Schwarz Digits results in highly integrated solutions.
Technological sovereignty without back doors
The cooperation is strategically driving the secure networking of the cloud infrastructure right up to the edge in order to meet the highly complex requirements in the area of internal and external security. While conventional solutions are often based on components from global providers, Schwarz Digits and Siemens rely on a predominantly German value chain. The hardware used by Siemens meets the highest industrial standards and is manufactured in Germany. Like all STACKIT cloud components, the software is developed in Germany.
“In times of growing uncertainty, reliability is what matters most for industry,” says Cedrik Neike, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries. "Together with Schwarz Digits, we are creating a secure and stable foundation for Germany's critical infrastructure through sovereign 5G connectivity."
Bernie Wagner, CSO of Schwarz Digits, adds : “We are delighted to have a strong partner at our side in Siemens. Authorities and companies benefit from the seamless integration of the 5G campus solution into our STACKIT Distributed Cloud from the cloud to the edge. ”
Autonomy through air gapping and access control
For particularly sensitive areas of application, the network is designed for so-called air-gapped operation. This means that the local 5G network works completely isolated from the public Internet or external networks. Access control is hardware-based via SIM cards, which enables precise identification of the authorized end devices. Thanks to this strict isolation, the system allows the coexistence of public and private 5G networks without endangering the security of the private sector.
Integration into the system-of-systems
As part of the partnership, the 5G campus solution from Siemens will no longer function as an isolated network, but will become an integral part of the Schwarz Digits digital ecosystem. The deep technological integration with the STACKIT Distributed Cloud creates a real 'one-stop deployment'. This eliminates historically grown, fragmented IT processes and overcomes system limits. Authorities and companies benefit from a seamless infrastructure and can scale computing power and network capacities highly flexibly from the cloud to the edge - securely and from a single source.
